Dhawan's batting style will suit South African pitches which are nowadays not as much bouncier as they used to be in the early 90s, 00s. However the main concern is the quality of bowlers he is going to face in SA and not the pitch itself.Another opportunity for India to prove their status in world cricket when it comes to playing champion sides in challenging conditions. India haven't done well in England and Australia the last time they played there. Tackling SA's firepower will be a huge challenge for the likes of Dhawan, Kohli, Pujara, Rohit and Dhoni who all flourish on Indian pitches / conditions. A huge test awaits the Indian team who are without Tendulkar and Dravid who without doubt had the type of temperament and technique to adept to any given situation. With only two Test matches scheduled (which is a pity) India will need to come up with somethig special right from the word go. One bad day in field could be a decisive foctor and it would become really difficult clawing back into contention. As far as the bowlers are concerned, its a huge opportunity especially for Shami and Bhuvi to impress. Having Zaheer in the lineup is a huge plus. An exciting short series awaits.Pakistan just beat South Africa 2-1 in the ODIs in South Africa They should be chuffed up about it because they had been thrashed by South Africa 3-0 in the Tests not very long back in South Africa. They lost to Zimbabwe also not too long ago. So the PCB should be really happy with the progress. Maybe it is because of the young players they have brought into the team. But they should be grateful to Misbah. He is a truly great player even if he was selected rather late in his life. The India South Africa series should be very interesting I think. In fact the last time India went to South Africa in xxxx/11, they lost the first test badly because of their late arrival there, but won the next Test and squared the series. They were poised to win the third Test and the series when rain and bad light stopped play. Sachin and VVS were batting and they had a 100 odd to get to win. So regardless of the many views expresed here, I feel the series will be well fought and close.Might be wrong but no other attack has dismissed three international test teams for less than 50. Not Warne, McGrath. SA has done it three times against Pakistan, New Zealand and Australia. Hope to see more. This feat cannot be done if Steyn was the only good bowler. Look forward to more. Overated no, best combo ever.GRVJPR ohhh so now Bhuvi and Shami are the new Waqar and Wasim? The only reason why those 2 are playing Test cricket is because they're Indians. None of them would qualify for 3rd XIs of SA, Eng, and Aus. In all Test playing nations the Indian attack maybe better than West Indies, Bangladesh and (MAYBE) the New Zealand attack, that's it nothing more. Re short ball, of course you won't like it. Last time I checked, many Indians didn't like it too. And don't tell me that Dhawan, Kohli and Rohit can negotiate it well, the question is against who and most importantly WHERE. As evident most of you confuse ODI cricket and Test cricket, the West Indies have recently won the World T20s, does that make them world champs.Dhawan is just hands and seems to go after anything thats pitched up.If he comes out of it good, yeah hes got it in him.But test crickets about batting sesions. Dont thinks its in him.Same with Sharma they stay beside the ball and have tendency to just follow the ball with hands with Setup they have got.Pujara 's ssetup is too low and likes to feel ball on bat and needs to rectify it before it comes to tests. Philander wil be a pain and there would be four man pace attack at Jo'burg.India needs runs even if they lose at Jo'burg, caue Durbn will be sticky wicket and take turn later on.The biggest elephant in the room i bowling India will have 2 spinners and 3 fast men,but really no one has it in him to run through the side.Shami looks one trick pony,so does B.Kumar and Ashwin's only series away was disaster.Hope I am wrong but dont think I would be.Ireland successfully defended their World Twenty20 Qualifiers title with a comprehensive 68-run win over Afghanistan in the final in Abu Dhabi, thanks largely to blitzed fifties from Paul Stirling and Trent Johnston - in his final Twenty20 match - that propelled them to a mammoth 225.Ireland, who have been in excellent form throughout the tournament, winning six of their seven group matches before thumping UAE in the semi-finals, were rampant from the get go. Electing to bat, Ireland began strongly as Stirling pulled Shapoor Zadran for four off the fourth ball of the innings and upper-cut the next delivery for six over third man.Stirling received ample support at the other end from his captain William Porterfield, who also picked out the boundaries at regular intervals as the pair raced to 68 inside six overs. Ireland suffered their first casualty when Porterfield, having just hit Hamza Hotak through the covers for four, missed a cut and was bowled for a 14-ball 27.That didn't slow Ireland down in the least though, as new batsman Kevin O'Brien pierced the offside with his first two deliveries for four, and lofted the third for six over the bowler's head. O'Brien departed for 20, but his 12-ball cameo had already taken Ireland over the 100-run mark in 8.3 overs.Afghanistan would have hoped for a reprieve following the wicket, but Johnston, coming in at No. 4, continued the carnage, as he and Stirling slammed 64 off 32 deliveries. Stirling finally fell for 76 - caught by Mohammad Nabi off Hotak in the 15th over - having hit eight fours and four sixes, but Johnston added 44 more runs with Gary Wilson and John Mooney at a manic pace. Johnston was eventually bowled by Zadran for 62, but it was too little too late for Afghanistan, as Ireland had already amassed well over 200.Set a daunting 226 to win - a record, if they achieved it - Afghanistan began spiritedly, as Mohammad Shahzad took 14 runs of Max Sorensen's first three balls. At the other end Nawroz Mangal hit 12 off Tim Murtagh's first 4, as he and Shahzad added 36 in 3.2 overs before Mangal was bowled by George Dockrell - like Afghanistan, Ireland too resorted to spin early on - for 14. Afghanistan tried to maintain the high required-rate and did so for a while, but their progress was halted by wickets at regular intervals from Dockrell and Alex Cusack .Cusack claimed two wickets with the final two balls of the Powerplay to set Afghanistan's chase back quite a bit. Gulbadin Naib top-scored with 43, but received little support from the rest of the middle order as Johnston made a telling contribution with the ball as well by picking up the wickets of Naib, Samiullah Shenwari and Najibullah Zadran in quick succession - he too was on a hat-trick in one point in his spell - to all but wrap up the game.Seamer Murtagh delivered the winning blow, yorking Shapoor Zadran to seal the title.Despite the crushing defeat, Afghanistan can take comfort in the fact that their spot in the World Twenty20 xxxx is well secured, along with Ireland, Nepal, UAE, Hong Kong and Netherlands. Afghanistan have been drawn with hosts Bangladesh, Nepal and Hong Kong in Group A for the first round of next year's showpiece event. Ireland are in Group B, with Zimbabwe, UAE and Netherlands.Trent Johnston's performance in his final match, now, that's what is called going out on high. I believe he might still be persuaded to make a comeback for the real T20 WC if replacements fail to deliver.Dear Chechongxxxx, You are telling that you have watched almost all games. But your comments are not supporting your claim. Wherever Nepal played and whenever played drew huge crowd. You better watch matches again to see the numbers of Nepali people supporting their team in Dubai, Abudhabi and Shajrah.Similarly to some extent the Afghans supported their team by their presence in the stadiums. But I agree your claim for the remaining matches which doesnt involve either Nepal or Afghanistan. If ICC does not give chances to Associate member to play with top tens team, it would be very difficult for them to improve their cricket. A perfect finish to Trent Johnston's T20 career! He has been the guiding light for Ireland in their quest for full membership of the ICC. Ireland have a crop of good young cricketers like Paul Striling, James Shannon and George Dockrell, alongwith experienced ones like Porterfield and the O'Briens. With a domestic first-class tournament in place, their future looks bright. I dare say Porterfield is a world-class player already. Now all that remains is to see Ireland play test cricket alongwith one of the full members. I do hope that day is not far away with Ireland giving such compelling reasons for full membership. I think Afghanistan will also eventually become a full member, but it will take some more years than Ireland and they need to have a first class tournament in place. As of now, there are no hopes of full membership for teams like Netherlands, UAE and Nepal.Ireland can play only with Zimbabwe in Twenty20 WC, xxxx and if they win all game only can play with Top 8 teams. This is very bad format for Associates. Also I say Johnston never retire from Ireland . He can retire after xxxx WC. This is a request. Funny to see some SL fans have such a fear over India. They know that India can beat them any day anywhere in any game.Declining teams like SL will be thrashed by Ireland and Afgan in the coming WT20. Oldies like them cannot defeat youngsters and even their fans know that.I watched the last match and saw that there is no variation and line length in Afg bowlers, they have to work hard to improve their bowling.Ire bowling was better, but to do well in Bd ,they will need good spinners.Everybody is saying that Ire will crush Zim,but I don't think so.Zim bowler are far better than Afg .There will be slower, yorker and good spinning attack with utseya and cremer and they have batsman like taylor, masakadza, chigumbura etc who can change the game single handly. To beat Bd in Bd , Afg need super luck.Afghanistan did better in the tournament, but Hamid Hassan's presence is very very necessary in Afghan Squad. We saw in this match that the bowler didn't pitch the bowl at the right areas and were struck for fours and sixes around. I hope he will be ok and fit for next match with Pakistan. I would like Nabi to determine everyone's place in the team and get the most out of them. Hope we beat Bangladesh, Nepal and Hong Kong to reach the big stage.South Africa chased successfully for the first time in eight matches but they had their bowlers to thank for setting up a moderate target. They restricted Pakistan to a score under 200 on a surface where extra bounce and turn made batting tricky. Vernon Philander, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Ryan McLaren and Wayne Parnell all got the ball to kick up from back of a length and tested Pakistan's line-up with tight lines. Contrastingly, Pakistan's attack, sans Junaid Khan, only really troubled South Africa with their spinners, whose mid-innings strangehold threatened to send the hosts into freefall. AB de Villiers batted with the patience required to steer his team and save them from being whitewashed in a three-ODI series for the first time in more than 20 years. The loss would have left Pakistan wondering what could have been had they had Shahid Afridi, who was rested, as a bowling option in this game.Pakistan made four changes in total to their XI and despite the new-look outfit, Misbah-ul-Haq promised not to take a relaxed approach to the final fixture. He was the only one who stuck to that resolution, with a customary half-century amid the collapse. The memo was missed by the rest, starting with Ahmed Shehzad, who played lazily at the fourth delivery of the morning to give Hashim Amla a regulation catch at first slip. Asad Shafiq also failed to make use of his opportunity but Umar Amin showed better temperament. In his first appearance in this series, he was asked to open and did the right thing by giving himself time to get his eye in before attacking. With Sohaib Maqsood in good touch, the pair looked capable of setting Pakistan up. They scored 41 runs in the 47 balls they were together before a well-judged catch by Amla at slip ended their stand and indicated the problems extra bounce would cause. Ryan McLaren pitched back of a length and Amin got a thick edge as he fended at it to force Amla into a jump. McLaren continued to trouble Pakistan's batsmen with the lift he generated. His short ball also accounted for Masood, who played the pull too early and popped the ball up for McLaren to complete the a nifty catch in his follow-through.When Umar Akmal too was the victim of a stunning catch - by his opposite number who dived one-handed to take it - Pakistan were teetering. They inched even closer to unravelling when Bilawal Bhatti and Anwar Ali were dismissed in the space of three balls to leave Pakistan at 97 for 7. It was a situation Misbah-ul-Haq has been in many a time and one he knows how to navigate expertly. He found an ally in Abdur Rehman, who was willing to rotate strike and spend time at the crease. The pair negotiated the short ball barrage well but also flirted with danger. Misbah was on 43 when he almost threw it away, cutting off Wayne Parnell. JP Duminy at backward point put down a simple chance. Rehman lofted McLaren to third man but the substitute fielder spilled it. The pair posted 51 before Rehman holed out to deep square leg and Misbah was left to finish off.Back to back sixes off Imran Tahir, whom Misbah charged to smack straight down the ground, took him three-quarters of the way to a century, but as been the case throughout his career, he was left stranded with Pakistan on a below-par score.South Africa's openers set about their task briskly. Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock blitzed their way 34 off the first five overs against a Pakistan opening pair that offered width and strayed on the pads. Had they tempered their enthusiasm with some caution, they could have batted through but de Kock was the first to go when he top-edged a pull off Bilawal Bhatti. As soon as debutant Henry Davids arrived, so did the spin threat and it immediately slowed South Africa down. Davids battled to read Ajmal's line and after facing seven balls from him was put out of his memory when he was stumped.Amla continued fluently and it was only when he was run-out that South Africa's nerves would have tightened. JP Duminy and AB de Villiers were tied down by Pakistan's spinners, which resulted in even Maqsood being given a bowl. Duminy was eventually tempted by Rehman's flight. He went forward to try and play on the leg-side and the ball hit bat, pad and then settled into Akmal's glove.David Miller provided the aggression to get South Africa out of what was becoming a pressure situation. By the time he flashed off Tanvir, the match was all but won and with the required run-rate under control, de Villiers and McLaren could knock it around until they reached the target. McLaren did not last until the end but de Villiers was unbeaten while Wayne Parnell smoked the winning runs with more than 11 overs to spare. As the commentators said Pak and SA matched in nearly every department and shared the series in all format. Test are drawn, ODIs are shared 1-1 and T20s 1-1 ( One T20 was in Completely Pak favor when ended by rain, They just miscalculated it otherwise they easily won it onD/L). Last ODI was just an exercise. For Indian Fans it's very simple, If Indians win any series they are better than Pak. SA are a very talented side in all department and all format but their bowling is exceptional. Indians came here with great batting sides before but always failed. They don't have Tendulakar, Dravid, Sehwag, Laxman and CO this time so it's not easy for them. SA batting is very talented and they bat long and not easy for Indian bowlers to get 10 SA wickets.mzm149. great justification... plz also justify excellent performances of nasir, umer amin and hafeez. I think nasir in 4 matches of SA tour made 2, 24, 19, 18, in UAE 19, 1, 0, 38, 32, 37 excellent....... In last 15 matches, he didnt cross 38 score. it is justifying you greatly.Pak was lucky to win the first 2 matches. Mighty SAs showed their colours at the end. With this weak batting line up Pak will never beat a great team like Ind. Hopefully they will performe better in their next series against weak Lankans.diehardINDIANcricketfan i think ur quality of the Indian batsman is better than our pakistani bowlers.some ind team hetter says that nothing big when india win at home but when sa aust wins at home they called them great, what a double standarad.btw india win outside also plz check the records.i think india won 13 matches out of 15 in outside india(in eng,wi).some people says ind pitches are flat & easy for batting but in actual ind pitches are slow & turning not so easy for batting. why not apposite team's batsman make more runs againat so called weak bowlling of india and win matches if indian pitches are easy for batting.plz check the average of great ponting in india which is very low below 30. so indian pitches are easy for batting then why his average low in india.(avg. of sachin, dravid laxman are above 50 in australia eng Well pakistan did win and everything against this depleted and somewhat uninspired SA side. But they should not be too happy coz they have their biggest test coming up. Lions will not show any mercy and are the best team in the world. I have no doubt that SL will thrash PAK. Suresha from colombo. PLZ publish.diehardINDIANcrickeyfan: Thank God Dinda, Munaf Patel and Umesh Yadav are not in the deal.If u want dhawan , rohit virat. then u have to take ishant vinay kumar and nehra. Its a combo deal In an opening Australian victory notable for its loud and brutish nature, Chris Rogers and Shane Watson were conspicuous by their muteness. Senior members of the Test team and critical components of the batting order, both men struggled for effect at the Gabba, and are seeking more substantial showings in Adelaide.Brisbane's bounce was a significant factor in their struggles, startling Rogers on the first morning while also contributing to each of Watson's dismissals, a fend in the first innings and a skied pull in the second. No one knows exactly what to expect from Adelaide Oval's drop-in pitch, but it is fair to surmise that Rogers and Watson will join England's batsmen in not complaining should the ball arrive at hip rather than armpit height as they chase a better batting rhythm. Before flying west, Rogers visited his Victoria teammates during their Sheffield Shield engagement with South Australia at the MCG. He also ventured to the visitors' dressing room for a chat about how Adelaide's pitches had played in the first two matches since their unveiling, and was happy enough with what he heard.I spoke to a few of the South Australian guys, it will be a typical drop-in wicket I think, not dissimilar to the MCG but a bit more flat and that will mean the bowlers will have their work cut out," Rogers said. "It would be nice to see a few runs in this game but also a bit of bounce for our fast bowlers.Since returning home from England and a northern summer in which he found himself playing for the national side in addition to his county obligations for Middlesex, Rogers has struggled to feel entirely comfortable at the crease. A noted technical theorist, he has worked assiduously between Tests on his balance, and also on ensuring he plays in the straight lines that have served him well over a prolific career.Another clue to his approach in Adelaide could be found in the first-innings exits of Aaron Finch and Rob Quiney in the aforementioned Shield game. Each perished essaying a cross-bat stroke early on the MCG drop-in, mistakes that helped the Redbacks rush the Bushrangers out for 118 on the first day. Do not expect too many such strokes from Rogers in Adelaide until the Kookaburra's seam has softened.I have probably hit the ball a bit better but I was able to do some good work this week and iron out some flaws," Rogers said. "I didn't contribute in the first game as much as I would like to be so it would be nice to get some in this game. I want to be playing the whole series and scoring runs, that's my job, so I probably can't afford too many failures.Watson's low scores in Brisbane, meanwhile, can be partly attributed to the fact that the opening Test was the first red-ball fixture he had played since the final match of the previous series against England at The Oval in August. In between, Watson fulfilled Twenty20 and ODI duty for Australia while also turning out for Rajasthan Royals in the Champions League.A hamstring injury cast doubt over his ability to bowl at the Gabba and also prevented him from taking part in the one Shield match available to him between the end of the India ODI tour and the first ball of the Test series. While Watson's bowling is an important element of Australia's combination, it is of far less import than his ability to punch England's fast bowlers through the field and loft Graeme Swann over it.After David Warner and Michael Clarke showed the value of controlled aggression in Brisbane, Watson wishes to do likewise in Adelaide. Should he and Rogers find their games in time for Thursday, the climb ahead of England will become a decidedly steep one.I don't think it's correct to point finger on Rogers so early. He was most consistent Australian batsmen in last Ashes just 2 months back and in last test also though he could not score big but he had a solid start with Warner in the first inning that actually gave Australia a launch pad to score big and sweep the match. I have strong hope that Rogers would definitely come strong and prove a point that Australian selectors did a huge mistake by ignoring him for years. If you look at Watson as a batsman he might not cut it, but as an all-rounder, his numbers are world class, so he definitley fits into our best team, the question is just where? I think no.6 but we don't have a decent no.3 in the country yet, so he has to take the brunt of it at no.3
