Description:
Unit: Appellate Division
The USAO:Las Vegas requires paralegal support services to include direct legal support, clerical and administrative support, and automated litigation assistance.
The Contractor serves as the paralegal responsible for directly and independently supporting a team of Assistant United States Attorneys and paralegals by performing a variety of complex legal functions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
:Provide litigation support in preparation for trial.
:Examines, prepares and processes a limited number of legal documents under the supervision of the Appellate Chief. These consist of responses to post:conviction motions, notices of appeal, motions for extensions of time and other pleadings related to appellate matters.
:Reviews incoming material such as legal documents, notices of appeal, scheduling orders, motions etc...
:Provides assistance to attorneys in preparing briefs and memoranda by independently compiling record material, notebooks and other material.
:Provides a variety of direct clerical and admin support to the AUSA staff.
:Establishes and maintains files in appellate, post:conviction and crack sentence reduction cases. Assembles exhibits, affidavits and other legal documents.
:Performs docketing duties such as opening, updating and closing cases.
:Provides litigation assistance to attorneys in preparation for courtroom presentations.
Required Qualifications:
:Requires paralegal certificate.
: An equivalent level of legal training may be substituted with the approval of the COR.
: At least one year of litigation paralegal experience required; trial experience very helpful.
: At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
: Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
: Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
: Must have hands:on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
: Role also requires hands:on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of e:discovery procedures and resources.
: Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.
:Must be able to obtain DOJ MBI security clearance.
