Antiques Burmese Lacquer Offering Bowl in Las Vegas, Nevada For Sale

Lacquer ware is a traditional Myanmar craft that dates as far back as the 13th century. Usually the skeleton of the Burmese Hsun-ok lacquer ware Hsun-ok offering bowl is bamboo, successive layers of lacquer derived from a resin from a tree found in South East Asia and is applied layer by layer. Each layer is left to dry for a number of days, then polished, the process of incising and lacquering which has been used in this piece can take up to 6 months to complete. So it takes a great deal of time to make one.
The hsun-ok offering dish is used to carry food, it is extremely resilient and are most often used by the monks in monasteries for food offerings. Today many of these pieces make a very nice decoration. The pattern on many modern pieces is painted on rather than incised.
This fine piece of lacquer offering bowl came from Myanmar and it is about 70 to 80 years old
in black lacquer finished. This is one of the fine piece from our collections.
